Delta State was created on the Twenty Seventh August Nineteen Ninety One (27/08/1191) from the defunct Bendel State. Bendel State was formerly known as the Midwestern Region at the time it gained regional status in August Nineteen Sixty Three (1963), from the then western region. At the inception of Delta State it was made up of 12 political divisions called L.G.A (Local Government Areas), which was later increased to nineteen (19) in nineteen ninety six (1996). Presently the State is made up of twenty five (25) L.G.A.
