Since 2003, SFCG has worked through its multi-media division, Common Ground Productions, in Nigeria, from 2004 to 2008 producing and broadcasting a TV series targeting a youth audience. In 2010, SFCG began building its engagement in Nigeria, initiating a multi-year conflict transformation program, utilising media and support to civil society in order to expand and deepen the impact of the Common Ground approach in Nigeria. SFCG has established a permanent presence in Abuja as an operational base for a number of initiatives comprising the country program.  SFCG works to support peaceful resolution of conflict in the areas of Nigeria such as the Niger Delta and Jos.

SFCG-Nigeria recently began an 18-month project which focuses on Support in Promoting Building Peace Architecture in Jos.

POSITIONS SUMMARY & QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENT

1. Field Officer
The Field Officer will be responsible for coordinating and monitoring the implementation of activities, in close coordination with SFCG-Nigeria’s local partners.

Qualifications/Recruitments
  • A minimum of three (3) years of work experience in community development including facilitation, project design, and implementation;
  • At least two (2) years of experience specific to working in communities in Jos;
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related field;
  • The demonstrated ability to successfully facilitate using participatory methods;
  • The demonstrated ability to build diverse teams using a collaborative process;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • The ability to effectively liaise with government officials, partners, and community members;
  • High standards of integrity, professionalism, and impartiality;
  • The ability to work independently and effectively in a team environment;
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized, with a proactive approach;
  • The ability to multi-task and work to meet tight deadlines;
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, as well as web browsers; and

2. Finance and Administration Assistant
The Finance and Administration Assistant will work closely with the Accountant to support the Jos Office’s financial management, reporting, accounting, disbursements, and record keeping.

Qualifications/Recruitments
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in finance or accounting;
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience as an accountant;
  • A general grasp of Nigerian laws on labour, procurement, and severance issues;
  • Knowledge of United States, European and African major donor rules and regulations;
  • Computer literacy and word-processing skills essential, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel and other accounting software;
  • Fluency in written and spoken English;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • The ability to prioritize a complex workload, handling multiple tasks and competing demands;
  • A commitment to the aims and values of SFCG; and
  • The ability to identify and solve problems on an immediate basis.
3. Driver
The Driver will operate the SFCG-Jos Office car and to support project activities.

Qualifications/Recruitments
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a professional driver;
  • A valid Nigerian driver’s license;
  • Experience maintaining and repairing vehicles to be able to anticipate problems and immediately alert the Logistics Assistant;
  • The ability to travel, even on short notice;
  • The willingness to work evenings and weekends;
  • Fluency in English;
  • The ability to identify and solve problems on an immediate basis; and
  • A proven track record of being punctual, reliable and respectful of confidentiality.
4. Design, Monitoring, and Evaluation Manager
The Design, Monitoring and Evaluation Manager will be responsible for all monitoring quality assurance, indicator tracking, and evaluation activities.

Qualifications/Recruitments
  • A minimum of five (5) years of work experience carrying out design, monitoring, and evaluation methodologies;
  • At least two (2) years of field-based data collection and analysis experience;
  • A Master’s degree in a related field;
  • The demonstrated technical capacity to provide support and guidance to project and partner staff on design, monitoring, and evaluation;
  • Experience in designing M&E organisation-wide systems;
  • Experience in designing M&E methodologies and tools, and the ability to coach and train others in their use;
  • The demonstrated capacity to coordinate and implement evaluations, including experience developing evaluation terms of reference, recruiting, training and managing a diverse team;
  • Proven experience and knowledge of the logical framework approach and results framework planning and evaluation methodologies;
  • Extensive experience analysing, interpreting, and reporting on M&E results so that lessons can be learned and incorporated into programming;
  • The ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing;
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills;
  • High standards of integrity, professionalism, and impartiality;
  • The ability to work independently and effectively in a team environment;
  • The ability to multi-task and work to meet tight deadlines; and

5. Accountant
The Accountant, will be responsible for the Jos office grants and budget management, procurement, and will be the principle point of contact for partner’s finance staff.

Qualifications/Recruitments
  • A university degree in accounting, economics or business administration;
  • 5 years working for international NGO or similar in a finance and administration capacity;
  • Fluency in oral and written English;
  • A good grasp of mathematics and able to perform complex calculations around payments and financial operations with the aid of a calculator and computer programme (Microsoft Excel);
  • Experience managing human resource issues in Nigeria;
  • A strong knowledge of compliance regulations for European, African and United States donors;
  • Experience with budgeting and reporting to international donors;
  • Capacity to negotiate with partners and to make decisions affecting those partnerships;
  • Strong leadership and management skills; and
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain good relationships with colleagues and partners.
6. Communications and Learning Manager
The Communications and Learning Manager will manage the media component of Jos office activities, working closely with SFCG in Nigeria’s partners to produce radio programmes.

Qualifications/Recruitments
  • A minimum of five (5) years of work experience in design and implementation of media programmes;
  • At least two (2) years of technical experience in creating and hosting radio programmes;
  • The demonstrated technical capacity to provide support and guidance to project staff on design and
  • implementation of media programmes;
  • The demonstrated ability to successfully facilitate using participatory methods;
  • High standards of integrity, professionalism, and impartiality;
  • The ability to work independently and effectively in a team environment;
  • A proven track record of being proactive;
  • The ability to multi-task and work to meet tight deadlines;

7. Grant and Compliance Manager
The Grant and Compliance Manager will support SFCG Nigeria progammes in the key areas of grants management of local partners.  With this position, SFCG seeks to strengthen its foundation from which good programming can be launched as well as strengthen its problem-solving and prevention capabilities across its Nigeria programmes. This individual will work in close cooperation with the various departments of SFCG, including the Operations and Finance Units, and with all sectors of the Nigeria Programme. This position is a capacity building position within SFCG’s Nigeria staff and with the partners that collaborate with SFCG in its programming.

The position is based in Abuja with frequent travel to project and partners’ offices and communities. The Grant and Compliance Manager will ensure the disbursement of partner grants, timely financial reporting and compliance with donor standards and SFCG policies.

Qualifications/Recruitments
  • Bachelor’s degree required, with a major in finance, business or related area.
  • Minimum of five (5) years in a financial management role with hands-on accounting and managerial experience, preferably with at least two years in a non-profit and/or international organization.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the rules, regulations and policies associated with Nigerian-based financial regulations and grants.
  • Knowledge of European, U.S. and African major donor rules and regulations.
  • Ability to manage and train staff in a cross-cultural setting.
  • Experience developing and designing policies and procedures.

8. Logistics Assistant
The Logistics Assistant will provide the main logistical support to the Jos Office, liaising closely with finance and administrative staff to ensure good recordkeeping, as well as liaising with the housekeeping staff to support the smooth functioning of the office.

Qualifications/Recruitments
  • A minimum of two years’ professional experience carrying out administrative, logistical and/or operational tasks (preferably in a non-profit setting);
  • A Bachelor’s Degree;
  • Fluency in written and spoken English;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral;
  • Interest in SFCG’s mission and work;
  • The ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and on tight deadlines;
  • Computer literacy proficiency, including solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint; and using the Internet for research;
  • The ability to work independently;
  • The ability to identify and solve problems on an immediate basis; and

9. Project Manager
The Project Manager is responsible for the timely implementation of the activities in the project, maintaining a cohesive and efficient action team of partners and staff, and measuring the impact of the results of the project.

  • At least five (5) years of experience managing a full-time staff of 10 or more.
  • At least three (3) years of experience working with governments, donors and civil society organizations at the international and field levels.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of EU donor rules and regulations, and the ability to manage multi-donor funding.
  • Demonstrated financial management and program administration experience, particularly with EU grants.
  • Demonstrated budgeting, proposal writing, and grants management skills.
  • Spoken and written fluency in English.
  • Familiarity with dialects indigenous to Jos region would be a plus.
