The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) seeks suitable Nigerian Nationals for the position of Research Technician I at the Institute’s Headquarters in Ubiaja, Ikenne, Hybridization, Grafting and Ibadan. There four vacancies are available on this position. These positions are on 2 year renewable contract.

POSITIONS RESPONSIBILITIES, QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
1. Research Technician I - Ibadan and Ubiaja
- Assist with hybridization and data collection in Ibadan and at outstations including Ubiaja
- Maintain records for hybridization, processing, packaging and storage of hybridized seed
- Assist set up and conduct field experiments including all aspects of data collection
- Serve on teams for determination of dry matter content and root mealiness
- Assist in the multiplication of selected cassava genotypes
- Assist training students on Industrial Attachment, National Youth Service Corps and other partner institutes.
Qualification, Experience and Skills
- Ordinary National Diploma in Crop Production, General Agriculture, Horticulture or related discipline from a reputable university/college/polytechnic.
- Minimum experience of 5 years in a similar position.
- Basic knowledge of crop management operations.
- Good time management skills.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks and work under pressure.
2. Research Technician I - Ibadan and Ikenne
- Assist set up and conduct field experiments including all aspects of data collection.
- Organise and lead field team in hybridization at Ikenne station.
- Assist coordination of pollination activities and lead pollination team to hybridize selected cassava genotypes.
- Assist in seed processing, packaging, labeling, distribution and storage of botanic seeds.
- Assist in the generation, harvesting and maintenance of genetic stock.
- Serve on teams for determination of dry matter content, cyanogenic content, post harvest physiological deterioration and root mealiness.
- Assist training students on Industrial Attachment, National Youth Service Corps and other partner institutes.
- Perform any other duty as may be assigned by the supervisor.

- Ordinary National Diploma in Crop Production, Statistics, General Agriculture, Horticulture or related discipline from a reputable university/college/polytechnic.
- Minimum experience of 5 years in a similar position.
- Basic knowledge of crop management operations.
- Good time management skills.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks and work under pressure.
3. Research Technician I - (Hybridization) Ibadan
- Assist set up and conduct field experiments including all aspects of data collection
- Assist coordination of pollination activities and lead pollination team to hybridize selected cassava genotypes
- Assist in seed processing, packaging, labeling, distribution and storage of botanic seeds.
- Assist in the generation, harvesting and maintenance of genetic stocks and genomic selection trials.
- Serve on teams for determination of dry matter content, cyanogenic content, post harvest physiological deterioration and root mealiness.
- Assist training students on Industrial Attachment, National Youth Service Corps and other partner institutes.
- Perform any other duty as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Qualification, Experience and Skills
- Ordinary National Diploma in Crop Production, General Agriculture, Horticulture or related discipline from a reputable university/college/polytechnic.

4. Research Technician I - (Grafting) Ibadan
- Assist set up and conduct field experiments including all aspects of data collection.
- Assist in seed processing, packaging, labeling, distribution and storage of botanic seeds.
- Lead team in grafting and budding of selected cassava genotypes.
- Serve on teams for pollinations, determination of dry matter content, cyanogenic content, post harvest physiological deterioration and root mealiness.
- Assist in preparation of soil samples and plant samples for laboratory analysis.
- Assist training students on Industrial Attachment, National Youth Service Corps and other partner institutes.
- Perform any other duty as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Qualification, Experience and Skills
- Ordinary National Diploma in Crop Production, General Agriculture, Horticulture or related discipline from a reputable university/college/polytechnic.
- Minimum experience of 3 years in a similar position.
- Basic knowledge of crop management operations.
- Good time management skills.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks and work under pressure.
