The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) seeks suitable Nigerian Nationals for the position of Research Supervisor at the Institute’s Headquarters in Ibadan and Zaria. There four vacancies are available on this position. These positions are on 2 year renewable contract.

POSITIONS RESPONSIBILITIES, QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
1. Research Supervisor - Zaria
- Supervise outstation trial establishment, maintenance, data collection and submission to the cassava database manager.
- Assist in training of farmers in Mokwa and other Northern outstation.
- Preparation of weekly plan for all field workers and technicians in Zaria and other Northern outstations.
- Supervise teams for determination of dry matter content, cyanogenic content, post harvest physiological deterioration and root mealiness at outstations.
- Organize multiplication of cassava genotypes for outstations
- Assist training students on Industrial Attachment, National Youth Service Corps and other partner institutes.
- Assist other IITA cassava scientists in conduct of on-station and on-farm trials.
- Participate in cassava field surveys.
- Perform any other duty as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Qualification, Experience and Skills
- B.Sc/HND in Crop Production, Statistices, General Agriculture or related discipline from a reputable university/college/polytechnic.
- Minimum experience of 3 years in a similar position.
- Basic knowledge of crop management operations.
- Good time management skills.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks and work under pressure.
2. Research Supervisor - Ibadan
- Lead and supervise set up and conduct field experiments including all aspects of data collection
- Assist coordination and supervision of hybridization, seed processing, packaging, labeling, distribution and storage of botanic seeds.
- Supervise teams for determination of dry matter content, cyanogenic content, post harvest physiological deterioration and root mealiness.
- Assist training students on Industrial Attachment, National Youth Service Corps and other partner institutes.
- Supervision of general field activities and multiplication of cassava genotypes including at outstations Mokwa, Ilorin and Abuja.
- Organize and supervise labour distribution and allocation of daily responsibilities.
- Collect and collate field data for the data entry team the analyst.
- Prepare the weekly plan for all field workers and technicians
- Prepare protocols for each field activity and supervise implementation of the protocols.
- Perform any other duty as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Qualification, Experience and Skills
- B.Sc/HND in Crop Production, Statistics, General Agriculture, Horticulture or related discipline from a reputable university/college/polytechnic.
- Minimum experience of 3 years in a similar position.
- Basic knowledge of crop management operations.
- Good time management skills.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks and work under pressure.
3. Assist set up and conducts field experiments including all aspects of data collection
- Serve on teams for determination of dry matter content, cyanogenic content, post harvest physiological deterioration and root mealiness
- Co-supervise field laboratory in the use of I-check™ for determination carotenoids content in Ibadan and mobile laboratory at outstations
- Maintain laboratory standard operating procedures, equipment such as iCheck device and all its accessories.
- Lead electronic data collection and maintenance of records in the field laboratory
- Supervise and lead harvest teams specializing in sampling and laboratory determination of carotenoids
- Supervise arrangements for display of cassava products to showcase breeding activities when needed for tours, farmer field days and programmes outside IITA
- Assist training students on Industrial Attachment, National Youth Service Corps and other partner institutes
- Assist in distribution of labour and allocation of daily responsibilities
- Perform any other duty as may be assigned by the supervisor
Qualification, Experience and Skills
- B.Sc/HND in Bio Chemistry, Microbiology, General Agriculture, or related discipline from a reputable university/college/polytechnic
- Minimum experience of 3 years in a similar position
- Basic knowledge of crop management operations
- Good time management skills.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks and work under pressure
4. Assist set up and conducts field experiments including all aspects of data collection
